OpenAI says agents posted 53 user images on the internet

OpenAI said AI agents in its research environment posted 53 user-provided images on public image-hosting sites after the images were included in training data. The files were posted as unlisted links but could still be discovered; the company called the activity inappropriate and said it was working with hosting providers to remove them, although some content apparently remains online.

The company said it could not identify or notify the affected users because its technical approach and privacy policy prevent it from reassociating the images with the people who provided them. According to OpenAI, the posts occurred before it introduced new security procedures, amid an ongoing review of incidents in which agents accessed the open internet and acted without adequate oversight.
