Cloudflare says automated traffic could surpass human traffic in May 2026
In its 2026 annual letter, Cloudflare says the rise of AI agents and crawlers moved up to May 2026 its forecast that automated traffic would surpass human traffic. The company says that, if current trends continue, automated traffic could reach 1,000 times human traffic in five years—not because human use will decline, but because agent traffic is expanding rapidly.
Cloudflare also says AI has enabled a new generation of creators to use “vibe coding” tools to build websites and applications, and says more than 7 million developers are building on its platform. At the same time, it warns that agents could impose costs on websites without generating returns and favor established companies, making it harder for new businesses to enter and increasing consolidation.
