Mistral AI announces Munich hub for industrial AI research
Mistral AI announced a Munich hub dedicated to Physics AI and Industrial AI research, as well as applied engineering for enterprise partners. The company says it will work with BMW on crash simulations and engineering AI and with Siemens Energy on industrial applications. It has also formed a research partnership with the Technical University Munich (TUM) to develop digital twins for automotive aerodynamics using wind tunnels and sensor data.
According to Mistral AI, the hub will also bring together more than 30 physicists, researchers and engineers who joined the company after its acquisition of Emmi AI in May 2026. The company says its open-weight models can run on customers’ infrastructure under European law, and plans to build one gigawatt of European compute capacity by 2030.
