🎧 Listen to this story
Nothing CEO Carl Pei announced on X that the company will launch its first “AI-native” product in December. Pei described the device as a tool built with the personality associated with Nothing and said it will have no new screen — and “couldn’t have been an app.”
The company has not revealed the product’s form factor. The Verge notes that earlier rumors pointed to two pairs of AI smart glasses, including one without cameras, and to Nothing shifting toward AI accessories. Pei also criticized the industry’s search for an “iPhone of AI,” citing devices such as pendants, pins, glasses and AI companions.
Why it matters · editorial interpretation
The announcement places Nothing among companies exploring AI devices that do not rely on a new screen, but the form factor and functions remain undisclosed. Carl Pei’s reference to a distinctive identity suggests that design and user experience will be central to the proposal.
