Greg Brockman says OpenAI could be IPO-ready in 2027

OpenAI co-founder and president Greg Brockman said at a Wall Street Journal tech conference that the company could be ready for an IPO in 2027. He said OpenAI’s annualized revenue grew 70% in the third quarter while its enterprise business doubled; according to Brockman, enterprise now accounts for most of the company’s revenue, up from about 30% previously. Consumer revenue also continued to grow, he said.

Brockman said the first and second quarters of 2026 were difficult and that OpenAI was not yet considered a significant player in agentic coding, where Anthropic’s Claude Code had gained market share. He cited the partnership with JPMorgan Chase as an example of its enterprise expansion and said the company had learned to help clients identify important goals, build trust and show that it could be a reliable long-term partner.

Why it matters · editorial interpretation

The possibility of an IPO in 2027, according to Greg Brockman, puts enterprise-revenue growth and the ability to compete in coding agents at the center of OpenAI’s preparation for public markets. The account also suggests that earning client trust and building long-term relationships will be important to sustaining that expansion.
