Former Rockstar director says AI clones of GTA VI could speed up PC version
🎧 Listen to this story
Vermeij, a former Rockstar technical director, told Rock Paper Shotgun that he would be concerned someone could take the PS5 version of GTA VI and use AI to adapt it for PC. He said reverse-engineering it would probably cost tens of thousands of dollars in tokens and produce a port inferior to Rockstar’s work, but potentially good enough for some PC players.
According to Ars Technica, AI reverse-engineering tools may quickly turn a console game binary into code that is easier to adapt, weakening the traditional advantage of a later PC release. There is no official timing announcement for GTA VI’s PC port; Ars Technica says reports suggest Rockstar is aiming for the first quarter of 2027.
Why it matters · editorial interpretation
The possibility described by Vermeij and Ars Technica of adapting a console version with AI tools could reduce some of the work needed to create ports, although the result would probably fall short of the developer’s work. That could put pressure on the logic of releasing PC versions later if the quality is good enough for some players.
