🎧 Listen to this story
Palo Alto Networks is reportedly negotiating to acquire Clutch Security for $500 million in cash, plus additional payments tied to milestones, according to a person familiar with the discussions cited by TechCrunch. The startup secures AI agents’ access to company systems and was valued at $85 million when it raised a $20 million Series A led by Lightspeed and SignalFire in January 2025. Clutch is approaching $10 million in annual recurring revenue. The Information first reported the talks, TechCrunch said; neither company commented.
If completed, the acquisition would be Palo Alto Networks’ seventh this year, according to PitchBook. The talks reflect growing interest in security against cyberattacks enabled by AI, amid acquisitions of Clutch competitors including Oasis Security and Astrix.
Why it matters · editorial interpretation
The reported value—$500 million in cash plus milestone payments—would be far above Clutch’s $85 million valuation in January 2025 if the deal advances. Palo Alto Networks’ potential seventh acquisition of the year would also put AI-agent security at the center of consolidation in this market.
