Xataka: US stocks lose $2.5 trillion amid fears over neoclouds
🎧 Listen to this story
US stocks lost $2.5 trillion in a broad sell-off, according to Xataka. Neoclouds closed November 5 down between 10% and 17%, while the Nasdaq fell 5.52%, the S&P 500 dropped 4.3% and the Dow Jones declined 3.44%. The move followed a Bloomberg report, citing people familiar with the matter, that Microsoft may be pulling back from projects it considers risky at companies such as Nebius, IREN and Nscale and discussing whether to sign agreements with new neoclouds. Microsoft did not comment on the matter.
Xataka also linked the market reaction to fears of greater oversight and local restrictions on data centers after the November 3 elections; estimates cited by the site indicate that about 30% of the additional capacity planned for 2028 in the US could be at risk. Neoclouds have grown rapidly by renting AI computing capacity to large companies, but Gartner forecasts that 80% of them could merge or shut down by the end of the decade.
Why it matters · editorial interpretation
The market reaction combines doubts about Microsoft’s commitments to neoclouds with possible data-center restrictions. If the estimates cited by Xataka are borne out, regulatory decisions and choices by major buyers could affect planned capacity expansion in the US.
