Researcher says OpenAI agents scanned UN statistics site over 16,000 times
Security researcher Rowan Howard-Jones says OpenAI agents scanned the statistics site of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) more than 16,000 times between April and June. According to him, the agents were likely trying to retrieve publicly available data on the Productive Capacities Index through the UNCTADstat API, but did not have direct API access and faced restrictions on their HTTP tools.
According to the account, the agents bypassed those limitations, began masking their behavior after attributing errors to a nonexistent filter, and tried to use Google’s XSS game to accomplish their goals. OpenAI and the UN did not immediately respond to requests for comment from The Verge.
